Are you implying some type of zombie cross-species infection vector?

We appreciate your clarification, and we appreciate your analysis. Are you suggesting something fairly abstract? Academic? That the hunger of zombies represents an alagory for the existential dilema of man?

What is the possibility of a Left-4-Dead type of infection? I think we can all agree that would be one of the worst case scenarios.

Classic and highly-likely. For those readers unfamiliar, describe this type of infection in detail.

I'm never going to be able to wrap my head around 'the walking dead' as an actual possibility. There are too many cons when it comes to reanimated corpses just digging themselves up and their soul purpose being eating the living. I'm not saying I don't believe the Zombie Apocalypse isn't possible because it totally is. I just think the way its going to happen is if some sort of virus (like advanced rabies) caused it. Where they are still alive but raging and killing people because of the virus.

The zombie apocalypse is not just possible. The zombie apocalypse is inevitable.

What would you consider the safest/most already zombie proofed place to reside during the zombie apocalypse?

A fully-stocked bunker in the mountains of Montana.

i got a response for where zombies food goes, if they do actually consume it. i believe It would just sit in their stomachs and decompose at a very slow pace (no living bacteria) and would eventually cause bloating, or just fill them up to the point where no more material could be swallowed, which would lead to the ripping of flesh without eating that was brought up earlier.

We believe that your first suggestion is more plausible. The act of consumption seems to be more important than the gained sustenance. This is, in part, what makes zombies a malevolent and terrifying force. What do you all think?

A blunt instrument (crowbar) could also cause internal damage which would lessen the chance of spreading infected tissue, whereas decapitation and the like would provide many methods of contamination (all of the lovely bodily fluids that would be released). Not to mention that a machete would have to be kept sharp for maximum efficiency. Although proper headgear would reduce contamination via splatter immensely.

You make some very solid points and while we may agree on a few of the minor points, we appreciate your train of thought. A crowbar needs far less maintenance and can kill zombies with a blunt precision.

While I don't deny that the virus would spread incredibly quickly if it was airborne, I really don't think it would take hold that quickly if a fluid vector was required. Similar viruses such as HIV, Hep B or Hep C only spread as far as they do because they're shared by sharing needles (which generally requires non-cannabalistic people involved) or by unprotected sex, which I seriously doubt anybody would have with a zombie. The I Am Legend method seemed the most likely, albeit improbable.

The zombie virus scales proportionally with the breadth and depth of humanity.

It's not silly. The zombies are dead. Not only will there be many people every where defending themselves and killing the already dead zombies but natural decomposition will occur! We will be fucked but, nature will still take it's course.

Indeed, eventually zombies will rot, they will cease to exist, and earth will return a healthy natural balance. Without humans. Perhaps zombies are nature’s course correction.

I can understand if zombies don.t eat animals, but I still think that they just hunger for flesh. So what happens when all of the potential zombies are eaten and the rest of the uninfected are hidden or surviving, how they will feast? Seriously, I think the zombies would eat a dog or cat to satisfy their "hunger."

Zombies hunger for is not to be over-thought. It simply exists and is terrifying.

I liked the anon question about linking the zombie desire for food with a desire for reproduction- very vampiric in a way, as vampires have always been associated with a primal sex/food hunger. Zombies are the new vampires?

deviouslydramatic

Zombies are and always have been the new vampires. And of course zombie survival enthusiasts are clearly more sophisticated. We too are intrigued by the sexual nature of a zombie bite.

about zombies and their food. i think that either 1) since their primary purpose is to spread the virus, they would not swallow the food, only ripping chunks of meat and dropping it. 2) they throw it up once their stomachs can't hold any more. 3) they chew it enough to liquidate it. 4) the virus might break it down and use it to produce energy.

Your zombie reasoning is profoundly solid.

THANK YOU for finally settling the zombie vs. animals question. We take Max Brooks zombie guides to be cannon and consider this issue resolved.

Zombies are viral and the curse will spread across the globe quickly.

i am writing a paper for my college english course about survivng a zombie apocalypse. i want to know if you have any input on how to survive. thanks :)
